A note from playwright Tony Kushner:
This version of L'ILLUSION COMIQUE was done for a production directed by Brian Kulick who brought the play to my attention and asked me to adapt it. It contains several scenes and many speeches which do not appear in the French original. There are virtually no lines directly translated from the French. It owes much of its present structure and texture, as well as one of its best jokes to Brian.
