Production Notes

Seventh production of Season 25. Five performers played seven credited roles; Charlotte Rose played Matilde and Kris Schinske played Virginia, correcting errors in supplemental research. Set in “metaphysical Connecticut,” the play combines domestic comedy, magical realism, romantic upheaval, illness, and grief. Won the 2004 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and was a finalist for the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Rhonda Clark directed and shared set design with Nick Backes and sound design with William Hughes. Hughes is credited as CST technical director, replacing Steven Gillmore in the published staff listing since the preceding production; exact transition date unknown. Charlotte Rose had designed costumes for The Left Hand Singing (S25). Vikki Simer had acted in The Graduate and Picnic (S23). Kris Schinske also appeared in A Nice Family Gathering and Almost, Maine (S25). A contemporary Oklahoma Gazette review titled Comedy The Clean House Scrubbed Fairly Dull suggests mixed/unfavorable reception; do not portray as unqualified acclaim. Oklahoman profiled Vikki Simer during the run. Seven photos credited to Rhonda Clark.
